Monday October 7th

Morning Work Book (MWB)
The students work in their MWB most mornings for the first 1/2 hour. They will apply their knowledge to answer a variety of questions related to different subject areas. Today they worked on division, place value and multiplication. If they are bringing their red MWB home today that means they did not finish in class or need to make some corrections. Please help your child by setting aside sometime to complete this homework.

MWB questions from today:
1. 531 divided by 7
2.Write the number  1 307 026 108 in expanded form and word form.
3. 364 x 23

Science
The students have had their third day working on science/literacy centers. They will continue with this center for the next few days and then we will rotate.
Centers:
1.Visual Vocabulary
2.Life of a Tree (tree cookies)
3.Legends

Math
We worked in small groups today to find a solution to "how tall a stack of 1000 pennies would be".

Social Studies
As a preliminary learning time on democracy, the students were engaged in a scenario about being stranded on an island as a class. Students are discussing how to live and survive as a group and given specific circumstances to address as a group.

Buddies
As part of our grade 6 leadership, we have partnered up with a grade 1 class and each have a buddy. To support the grade1s with their science learning, we did a 'senses' walk to look/listen/feel for signs and indications of fall. The grade 6s worked to build relationship today by asking questions and sharing information about themselves. Our class also shared some of our knowledge about trees as we did our walk.

Reminders:
-Photo orders due by October 11th
-NO School on Friday or Monday
-Please respond to your child's Friday journal and ensure it is returned on Monday each week.
