Science
We have been researching planets. Each student is researching 2 planets (one rocky planet and one gas planet).

Questions students are using as a guide for their research

Answer the following questions in your creative journal in complete sentences.  Make sure your answers are written in your own words.

  1. What is a planet?
  2. Why is Pluto no longer considered a planet?
  3. Describe the two main types of planets.
  4. Describe the two different ways planets move.

Now, you will be researching two of the planets in our solar system, one inner and one outer planet, using the following sites in Learn Alberta and/or books.
  • Britannica School
  • Power Knowledge- Earth and Space Science
  • ScienceFlix
  • TrueFlix
  • Space Books

Your research must include (point form notes are okay):

  • Name of your planet
  • Where your planet is in relation to the other planets
  • Completed fact sheet
  • Notes on the surface of your planet
  • Weather on your planet
  • What makes your planet unique, or different from the other planets?
  • Other important and interesting information you learned about your planet

Students watched videos, did demonstrations and created a visual journal page on the reason for the seasons.

Math
We have been working on multiples and factors and patterns. Students are applying their understanding of prime and composite numbers.

Literacy
As part of our Sky Science, we are reading current event articles that pertain to this subject. We started reading an article about a teen who was doing an internship with NASA and discovered a planet. Students are working on employing a variety of reading comprehension strategies and watching them being modeled.
